Flatwater North - Canoe Kids Coach
Salary position based on 40 hours/week at $18-$22/hour based on experience and certification
Flatwater North Sprint Club is looking for two enthusiastic people to work as Canoe Kids Day Camp Coaches for our summer long Canoe Kids Programs. Our program provides a fun outdoor wilderness environment for children ages 7 – 13 yrs. of age to learn fundamental paddling skills and encourage a lifelong interest in paddling. Campers develop water safety awareness and paddling skills using different types of boats, which will increase their confidence on the water. The full week programs include on and off water activities & games, and discovery time.

Wage: Hourly wage of $18- $20 based on experience and certification
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Contract Dates: June 17 – August 16, 2019 (and a one-day orientation prior to June 17, date tbd)

Requirements:
• CKC Canoe Kids Instructor Certification or equivalent
• Pleasure Craft Operators License
• Standard First Aid and CPR
• Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check (RCMP)

Skills Required: (must be able to demonstrate through references)
• Demonstrable experience working with and instructing children of all ages and varying skill levels
• Previous experience with a paddling sport: canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board
• Must be physically fit and able to lift 40 pounds
• Sound leadership, communication and organizational skills
• Ability to adapt quickly to change
• Excellent character, integrity and flexibility
• The desire and ability to work in a team work atmosphere
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the lake

Responsibilities Include:
• To efficiently, clearly and enthusiastically provide paddling instruction to day campers
• Meet and greet campers and parents, daily in a welcoming manner
• Prepare the base camp for daily programs. Includes: opening, cleaning, maintaining and closing
• Assist with managing, preparing and maintaining club equipment
• Prepare the safety motor boats for daily use
• Assist with organizing, coordinating and leading dry land games
• Maintain a high level of safety both on and off the water
• Create, foster and encourage a fun, team-oriented, fair play environment
• Exude respect and appreciation for paddling sports
• Prepare weekly report cards and certificates for campers

Preference will be given to those applicants who hold one or more of the following:
• Bronze Cross, Lifeguard, or Swift-Water rescue certification
• Red Cross Lifesaving Level 3 or equivalent
• National Coaching Certification - Entry Level Competitive Coach (ELCC)
