Regatta Ready

Are you READY to race?

Regatta Ready is a developmental program for 10 – 16 year olds who want to improve their paddling skills, learn to train, and learn to compete in sprint canoe and kayak. If you have participated in CanoeKids and/or want to experience being part of a team, Regatta Ready is for you. Athletes will get the opportunity to compete out of the Territory (Western Canada Cup Regatta, Divisional Championships, Maple Ridge Regatta, Nationals, Canada Summer Games) in their age appropriate categories (U10, U12, U14,.U16). Learn more about the sport of sprint canoe and kayak. If you are wanting to participate, or have any questions, contact our Head Coach by email at [email protected] or by phone at (780) 676-1480.

Throughout the training camp the athletes will progress through and beyond the basic skills of sprint paddling and learn competitive paddling skills and the rules for sprint canoe kayak. Paddlers will learn about water safety rules for sprint boats, how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Participants will be led through training both on and off the water. During each session they will do a warm up, practice/work out and cool down.

This program will set paddlers up with all the necessary skills to paddle sprint canoes and kayaks competitively in both singles and crew boats. The goal is to teach excellent training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water.
To reinforce safe paddling skills, all participants are required to wear life-jackets or PFDs any time they are on the water or the dock.

Participants in the Regatta Ready Program are usually invited to travel to and participate in a sprint canoe kayak regatta outside the territory. Every year, we attend:

  • Canada West Cup in Regina on July 6-7, 2025
  • Prairie Divisionals in Regina on July 26-27, 2025
  • Pacific Cup in Maple Ridge, BC on Sept 7-8, 2025

These regattas are optional but recommended if you're interested in continuing on to the Sprint Team.  Costs for the regatta and travel will be additional. Maximum fees per trip per athlete is $800. Funding and fundraising money will be available to help families lower the costs of these trips.
Participants must sign up for membership before signing up for programs.
